How does the Spelling Challenge work?
The Spelling Challenge is a fundraiser designed to provide a positive learning experience for our students, while raising money for our school. The theme for this year’s Spelling Challenge is “The World Around Us.” We have chosen this as the theme in an effort to tie this year’s Spelling Challenge into the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The mission of the IB-PYP is to “focus on the development of the whole child in the classroom and in the world outside.” The program is designed to “encourage international mindedness and a positive attitude toward learning.”
Pledges can be obtained by family members, close neighbors and friends. Please do not allow your child to go door-to-door collecting pledges. Pledges are collected for the number of words spelled correctly. For example, if a parent pledges $1 per word and the student spells 20 out of 25 words correctly, then the pledge total would be $20. Sponsors may also pledge a flat amount. The success of the Spelling Challenge depends on participation and the goal is to have at least one sponsor for every student.
Students will have 10 days to collect pledges and 2 weeks to study for the Spelling Challenge test. Pledge envelopes with pledges are due Monday, November 3rd. The test will be on Friday, November 7th, during school hours.
Some classes will have “A” lists and “B” lists. Each teacher has determined which list your child will be tested on. Please ensure that he/she studies the correct list.
The tests will be graded on test day (Friday, November 7th) and sent home with the students that day. Collected packets and monies are due Friday, November 21st.

How will the money be used?
The money raised will be used by the PTO in its continued efforts to support the students and teachers here at Bradley International. Half of the money raised will go directly to the classrooms (see details on back). Last year’s Spelling Challenge raised over $9,000 dollars! We hope to exceed that number this year by more than $3,000 and we need your help!

Classroom Rewards:
The classroom with the highest average test score will win $250 to spend as they choose. In the event of a tie, we will hold drawing. The teacher along with his/her students may elect to purchase something for the classroom, may choose to take a field trip, etc.
The classroom that raises the most money (average per student) will also win $250 to spend as they choose.
100% Club:
Every child that scores 100% on the test will be entered in a drawing, by class, to win a special prize. All students that score 100% will receive a prize in addition to being entered in the class drawing.
