Principal Update

Our kindergarten students had an amazing learning experience at the zoo this week! The trip provided a rich opportunity for students to make real-world connections to their unit on animals and habitats, while also engaging with key concepts from their IB units, such as community, responsibility, and how people interact with the natural world.  One of the highlights of the day was seeing the baby giraffe, which sparked so much wonder and excitement!

Family Market Day was a phenomenal celebration of learning in action! Our 5th graders applied key concepts from the Colorado economics standards.  Through this real-world application, students gained a deep understanding of how economic systems work and the role of entrepreneurs in our communities.  This project beautifully reflected the IB Learner Profile—students were thinkers and inquirers as they planned and problem-solved, communicators as they promoted their products, and principled as they made decisions with integrity and fairness. Bravo 5th Grade, your innovation, collaboration, and curiosity were truly inspiring!

Enjoy the three day weekend and spring snow,

Kimberly Ulery, Principal

Jose Fernando Hernandez, Assistant Principal

The Learner Profile for the month of April is “Knowledgeable”.  Those who are knowledgeable explore concepts and ideas that have local and global significance.  In doing so, they acquire in depth knowledge and develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines.

Activities for Parents

  • Encourage your child to read books at home that correspond to the topics being covered in school.
  • If English isn’t your primary language, then encourage books in their mother tongue. This will help make them more meaningful and create connections to what is being taught in their classroom in English.
  • Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it.
-”Why do you think that was an important thing to know?”
-”Can you think of anything happening in the world today that might be similar to that aspect of history?”
  • Encourage your child to become more familiar with the acts of kindness throughout the world and how they can replicate those acts of kindness in their own lives and the lives of others.
